A Crafty Pause is a family-run online craft store based in the UK and managed by me, David Brooks.
My wife Julie was the driving force behind our first eCommerce craft store - Beebaab Crafting Supplies - which she ran with my help and support from 2016 to 2021. Unfortunately, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which she had lived with for many years, forced Julie to reassess everything in 2021 and the decision was taken to close the store to provide the time to take a pause and figure out a way forward, knowing that she did not want to step away from the craft supplies industry completely whilst acknowledging that something had to give to achieve a better balance. A few months later, in early 2022, after much brain thinky stuff, we opened a new store - A Crafty Pause. I manage the day-to-day running of the new store now with Julie having more of a back stage supporting role, so something of a role reversal. Julie is enjoying an extended crafty pause, continuing to be creative when energy allows.
The last few years have had a massive impact on mental health and well-being, and continue to do so, which is why taking time out for creative pursuits has never been more important.
